A World of Birds
A World of Birds
This website documents my life's work and features every species that I have photographed over the past 40+years and on 9 countries, from Canada to Costa Rica and from Scotland to France.
NON-PASSERINE VS PASSERINE SPECIES
NON-PASSERINES: All birds that are not classed as passerines (taxonomic order Passeriformes) are lumped together in the same group called non-passerines. Unlike the passerines, there are no distinguishing features of the non-passerine group. PART 1 of this site features species account links to all of the 466 non-passerines species I have photographs of from Great Tinamou to Crimson-fronted Parakeet in taxonomic order as found in eBird.
PASSERINES: All birds, like the House Sparrow, that have three toes forward, one backward, e.g. when sitting on a perch, belong to the Passeriformes order (Passerines). As a rule of thumb, songbirds are passerines, others are not. PART 2 features species account links to all of the 450 passerines species I have photographs of from Barred Antshrike to to Cinnamon-bellied Saltator also in taxonomic order as found in eBird.
Jim Gain - A Little About me
My first memories of bird watching as a child were of me more as a spectator than participant as I tagged along with my best friend and birder, Richard Taylor. One of my other childhood friends, Scott Litke, was an avid photographer with his own home darkroom. Eventually, I merged these two interests while in college and have been a bird photographer fanatic now for over 40 years. My bird photography has taken me to 8 countries where I have observed 1,066 Native or Naturalized species and photographed 907 of them (85%). It is my goal to help nature enthusiatists become familiar with the birds that can be enjoyed on this interstellar ark called Earth.
